Internships at the National Library of Greece | Athens

Internships are meant to be a valuable tool for every student of Europe to gain hands on knowledge and real work experience, by being part of the team of one of the most notable cultural institutions in Greece.   

 Internship placements are currently available at the following NLG departments:    

  • Manuscripts and Facsimile Department. Interns will be involved in various aspects of storage, cataloging, description, documentation and everyday care of material belonging to the Special Collections.  Required qualifications are BA or MA degree in one of the following or similar fields:  History, History Archives, Records Management, Library Sciences,  Rare Books and Special Collections etc. Experience in reading handwritten documents, knowledge of Modern Greek and familiarity with modern and contemporary Greek history and/or International standards of archival description will be further assets. 
  • Conservation Lab. Interns will be part of a team of specialized book and paper conservators involved with conservation treatment, preservation and preventive conservation activities on material from the various collections of the library that include manuscripts, printed books, archival material, works of art on paper and photographs. A BA degree in Conservation is required and some experience in the conservation of books and/ or paper. An MA in Conservation of books and/ or paper, skills in bookbinding and/or conservation of photographic material are desirable.

 Please note that internships are undertaken on a voluntary basis and are not financially compensated. Successful applicants can however benefit from the Erasmus+ traineeship programme offered by the Erasmus+ office of their higher education institution.
